7. Solana (SOL)
Solana is one of Ether’s most important competitors, with a fast network and a growing number of dApps, although Solana’s most compelling advantage at the moment is its programmer-friendly compatibility with the easy-to-code Rust language and its lowest transaction fees compared to Ether. Solana is also an early contender to become one of the preferred networks for blockchain-based gaming, which if successful could generate huge usage – and in turn trigger major demand for SOL tokens. Still down over 60% from its all-time high a few months ago, Solana’s past peak of $260 has seen a far greater rise than BTC or ETH. That said, it hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows for Solana, as its network has had around six meaningful outages recently as the young network struggles to cope with rapid growth, price volatility, and bots.
